The word boulē is a Biblical Greek word that means counsel—thoughtful deliberation that leads to wise decisions. It is not hurried advice or quick answers, but careful reflection shaped over time. In Scripture, boulē is often used to describe purpose and intention—decisions made with clarity, wisdom, and direction. One of the places it appears is Ephesians 1:11, which speaks of God working all things according to the counsel of His will. That idea of purposeful, deliberate counsel sits at the heart of why this space exists.
The name Boulē Consulting also carries personal meaning for me. My father, Dr. Harold Kime, spent much of his life teaching Biblical studies and the Greek language at Lancaster Bible College. Growing up, Greek words weren’t just academic concepts in our home—they were windows into meaning, context, and depth. My dad taught generations of students not just how to translate Scripture, but how to slow down, pay attention, and wrestle thoughtfully with the text. In many ways, boulē reflects the posture he modeled: careful thought, humility, and a deep respect for wisdom formed over time.
My own journey has been shaped by that same posture. For more than 25 years, I’ve served in nonprofit leadership, including the past 16 years as Executive Director of The Marriage Hub, a national nonprofit. Along the way, I’ve learned that leadership is rarely about having the right answers. More often, it’s about asking better questions, listening well, and creating space for discernment—especially when decisions are complex, relational dynamics are challenging, or the path forward feels unclear.
This blog is not meant to offer formulas or quick fixes. Instead, it is a place for reflection—on leadership, governance, stewardship, fundraising, and the human realities that leaders carry every day. These posts are drawn from lived experience: working with boards, navigating succession planning, leading capital campaigns, building sustainable financial models, and walking through seasons of conflict, growth, and change.
My hope is that what you read here encourages you to slow down, think carefully, and grow in wisdom as you lead. If boulē means anything, it is this: thoughtful counsel matters. And wise leadership begins when we are willing to pause, reflect, and choose our next steps with intention.
Welcome to the conversation.
